Star cast and plot
The movie revolves around the character of Tashi Duncan, portrayed by Zendaya, an extremely promising tennis prodigy whose career gets halted abruptly by a devastating injury.
Transitioning to coaching, Tashi finds herself married to Grand Slam champion Art, played by Tommy. In a bid to end Art's losing streak, Tashi enters him into a challenger event, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown.
Adding fuel to the fire is the presence of Patrick (played by Austin) who happens to be Art's former best friend and Tashi's ex-boyfriend. As tensions rise on and off the court, the trio is poised to deliver a riveting performance that promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Originally scheduled for its premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival in August 2023, the release of ‘Challenger’ has been postponed to 2024 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
The delay, while disappointing to eager fans, has only intensified the anticipation for the film, which promises to deliver a captivating blend of suspense, drama, and steamy intrigue. Directed by auteur Celine Song and written by Justin Kuritzkes, Challengers offers a tantalizing glimpse into the complex relationships between its protagonists: Tashi, Art, and Patrick.
The recently unveiled trailer provides a sneak peek into the film's narrative, teasing viewers with glimpses of the unique dynamic shared between Tashi, Art, and Patrick—both in the past and present. As the story unfolds, audiences are invited to witness Tashi's fall from grace, adding another layer of intrigue to the already suspenseful plot.
Written by Justin Kuritzkes, Challengers is produced by Guadagnino and Zendaya, along with Rachel O'Connor and Amy Pascal.
