Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi will next be seen in the much-awaited film Selfiee, which is a remake the Malayalam film Driving License which stars Prithviraj Sukumaran. At the trailer launch of the film, Prithviraj shared how the Bollywood superstar called him at 4 am after watching his film and came up with the idea of Selfiee.

Sharing anecdotes, the Malayali actor said , "Akshay Kumar is the person with whom the journey of Selfiee began." He added that he told Akshay to watch his film Driving License, which is a story that is important and should be told everywhere in India. He also told Akshay to call him at anytime to share his thoughts on the film.

"I had told Akshay sir to call me anytime. But I must tell you that it’s dangerous to say ‘anytime’ to Akshay sir. Because that anytime can be 4 am! I was working out when I got a call back from Akshay sir. He said, ‘Hey, Prithvi, I want to do the film'," quipped Prithviraj.

Selfiee is directed by Raj Mehta and is set in a different city from the original, which is supposed to give the story a fresh take on an important matter. In the film, Akshay plays a superstar named Vijay Kumar and Emraan is a Motor Vehicle Inspector.

Prithviraj said that he watched Selfiee and the makers have done a great job with its source material. "Full credit to Raj for having seen the original and then thinking of this film from that source material. To be able to tell a story in a different fashion, but still retain the core elements requires a lot of talent," he said.

Produced by Karan Johar under his Dharma Productions, Selfiee also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Diana Penty and Mrunal Thakur. It will release in theatres on February 24.
