A little less than two years since director Suni’s comedy drama about black magic, Avatara Purusha came to theatres, its sequel has finally set a date with audiences. Avatara Purusha – Trishankupayanam, the second part of the tale is coming to theatres on March 22, announced the team, including Suni and producer Pushkara Mallikarjuniah.

While audiences who have been waiting for the film to see how Suni will conclude the tale are pleased that it is finally seeing the light of day, the choice of release date, though is not to their liking. Avatara Purusha 2 has been sandwiched between two big releases. On March 15, the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s blockbuster Jackie is being re-released in a big way and on March 28, Yuva Rajkumar’s launchpad, Yuva is coming to theatres.

The Jackie re-release, which comes in time for the late Power Star’s birth anniversary is going to be a major event with KRG Studios targeting at least 100 centres. The film is likely to retain halls for a second week too, leading to the release of Yuva, which will also be a major event. Squeezing Avatara Purusha 2 into whatever little gap is available between these two films is not ideal, point out netizens, adding that the film is also clashing with the start of IPL, on a day that Bengaluru is playing Chennai.

Netizens fear that Avatara Purusha 2 will have the same fate as Pushkara’s earlier production 10, starring Vinay Rajkumar, which was given a silent release with no promotions whatsoever and then shunted to streaming within a week’s time.

Avatara Purusha follows the Jois family, led by Rama Jois (Saikumar) and his wife Susheela (Bhavya). The couple lost their only son while out at a temple festival along with his aunt Yashoda (Sudharani). This causes a rift between Rama Jois and Yashoda, which, years later, the latter’s daughter Siri (Ashika Ranganath), tries to mend by giving Susheela hope that their son is still alive. For this, she employs the services of a film junior artiste Anila (Sharan), who, as it turns out has an ulterior motive in turning up at the Jois family home.

Avatara Purusha’s ensemble cast also includes Srinagara Kitty, B Suresha, Balaji Manojar, Ashutosh Rana, Vijay Chendoor, among others. The first part of the film, Avatara Purusha Ashtadigbandana Mandalakam is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
