Bollywood heavyweight Karan Johar is a well-known name for Indian audiences as a prolific filmmaker. But the beloved KJo has a generous streak in him as well. He graciously gave away the name Shiddat to Dinesh Vijan, for the latter’s upcoming romantic drama of the same name.
Cinephiles might be familiar with the 2019 period drama Kalank, starring Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, which was produced by Karan Johar. Well, the working title for the same was given as Shiddat and it was registered with his production house, Dharma Productions. According to ToI, once the upcoming Kunal Deshmukh directorial was in the works, Dinesh Vijan just had to get his hands on the name, which he believed captured the essence of his film. Kunal Deshmukh kept Shiddat as not just the working title of his film, but he had also recorded a title track for it. Seeing how eager and set the director was to name the film, Vijan had put in a special request to Karan Johar, whom he is good friends with, to let go of the title. And of course, things worked out in the end, much to the relief of Deshmukh.
Shiddat revolves around the love story of an unlikely couple Jaggi and Kartika, whose romance seems to hit snags before it even begins as the latter is engaged to be married. Starring Radhika Madan, Sunny Kaushal, Diana Penty, Mohit Raina and Sikandar Kher among others, the film will premiere on Disney+Hotstar on October 1. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Dinesh Vijan under their banners of T-Series and Maddock Films.
