The 2024 Japanese series, Shogun, is adapted from its titular novel by James Clavell, in 2018. It will be brought to the screens by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, who produced it with the former.

Shogun Season 1 is calling out to the commoners of FX-verse. Season 1 of Shogun is based on its eponymous 1975 novel that emerges as a massive success despite initial hesitation. Based on the 1600s in Japan, the series will follow the basic series based on a lonely but isolated Lord Yoshii Toranaga, who must be safely returned, before his beliefs change.
Based in the 17th century, the series features a strong cast and crew comprising Hiroyuki Sananda as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, Anna Sawai as a mediator, while her father John Backthorne is marooned. The rest of the cast stars Hiroto Kanai, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, Mocka Hoshi, and Tokuma Nishioka. Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the series had Michael De Luca, Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, and Rachel Kondo as executive producers.
The series of ten episodes of Hiroyuki Sanada as Yoshii Toranaga, Anna Sawai as Lady Mariko, and Cosmo Jarvis as John Blackthorne, along with Tadanobu Asano as Kashigi Yabushige, Hiroto Kanai as Kashigi Omi, as Hiroto Kanai, Takehiro Hira as Ishido Kazunari, Moeka Hoshi as Usami Fuji, and Tokuma Nishioka as Toda Hiromatsu.
The official IMDB synopsis of the series reads, “Set in the 17th century, John Blackthorne, a sailor who rises from outsider to samurai, while being used as a pawn in Japanese leader Toranaga’s struggle to reach the top of the ruling chain, or Shogun.”
The Pilot, Blackthorne, as well as the crew, is thrust between a world of politics and history between rival Japan, the Catholic Church, and the Empires of Spain and Portugal. It is only with the help of a particular gorgeous woman that Blackthorne navigates the treacherous waters of Yoshi Toranaga for a profit.
The trailer for Shogun marks, “Do not be fooled by our politeness, our bows, our maze of rituals. Death is in our air and sea and earth.” The trailer drop on November 2, 2023, also confirmed that the new miniseries will also afford extra special attention to her Japanese roots and perspectives. Arriving in the early month of March or April, the series is set to premiere on Hulu in February 2024.
