Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to put his ambitious project, Baiju Bawra, on hold due to financial challenges. The film, initially announced before the pandemic, starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. Bhansali's vision for the musical revenge drama incurred an estimated budget of Rs. 350 crores, causing concerns among studios. Despite actors Ranveer and Alia showing support by accepting lower remuneration, studios felt the high budget was not financially prudent in the post-pandemic landscape. Unwilling to compromise his vision, Bhansali chose to delay the film. Instead, he plans to revisit other scripts and embark on a new project by the summer of 2024, with Inshallah potentially in the forefront if Shah Rukh Khan accepts the offer. Bhansali remains committed to creating cinematic spectacles and has multiple scripts ready for production.
