'Monk' movie releases first images featuring the return of Tony Shalhoub
Decorated American actor Tony Shalhoub, who recently played a prominent role in the multiple award-winning Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is reprising his most iconic role for an upcoming film. Shalhoub will play the role of Adrian Monk yet again for the spin-off film to the hit mystery comedy series Monk. The highly-anticipated feature film is titled Mr Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie and it will follow the brilliant detective Monk, who suffers from severe OCD, on his final case. The film will be set 14 years following the events of the series finale and it involves a case surrounding Monk’s stepdaughter Molly. Mr Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie will release on Peacock on December 8 and it is expected to subsequently release on Jio Cinema in India.
Angelina Jolie returns to the silver screen in opera singer Maria Callas’ biopic
Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, who was last seen in the 2021 Marvel film Eternals, is set to return to the silver screen in the upcoming film Maria. It is helmed by Chilean director Pablo Larraín, who is best known for directing El Conde and Jackie, and it is a biopic on renowned American-born Greek opera singer Maria Callas. The film has begun production after reaching an agreement with SAG-AFTRA to film during the ongoing strikes and the first look featuring Jolie as Callas has been released. The film will explore the affair between Callas and shipping mogul Aristotle Onassis, who is being played by Turkish actor Haluk Bilginer. Interestingly, Onassis also had a romantic relationship with Jacqueline Kennedy, whose biopic titled Jackie was helmed by Maria director Larraín.
'Loki' Season 2 premieres with four times the viewership of Season 1 finale
Loki season 2 premiered on Disney+ in the US, and on Disney+ Hotstar in India, last week. Tom Hiddleston returned as the God of Mischief Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Loki and his allies attempt to fix time and reality which were fractured by Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer. Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also return for Season 2 and they are joined by Academy Award-winning actor of Everything Everywhere All At Once, Ke Huy Quan. According to the latest reports, the Season 2 premiere drew nearly 10 million viewers, which is four times that of the Season 1 finale. It is also the second most-watched Disney+ original, second only to the hit Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
‘She-Hulk’ star Tatiana Maslany voices two characters in ‘Invincible Season 2’
Tatiana Maslany, who recently played the lead role in the Disney+ original Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, has been cast in the acclaimed Prime Video animated series Invincible. Maslany, an Emmy Award-winner, will voice two characters in the R-rated animated series. Maslany previously voiced the character of Queen Lizard in the spin-off series Invincible: Atom Eve, and for Season 2 she will voice two new characters – General Telia and Queen Aquaria. The highly-anticipated second season of Invincible will feature Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, and Zazie Beetz among others returning. Invincible Season 2 will premiere on Prime Video on November 3.
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ releases new motion poster ahead of release
Disney+ has released a new motion poster for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the highly-anticipated TV adaptation of Rick Riordan’s young adult novels. The poster depicts the demigod Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover preparing for battle. The plot revolves around Percy, who moves to Camp Half-Blood, a training facility for Greek demigods after he discovers that he is the son of the Greek God Poseidon. But things take a turn when he is suspected of stealing Zeus’ lightning. Despite concerns that the series will be postponed due to the strikes in Hollywood, Disney+ is moving forward with the original date. Created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, the series stars The Adam Project actor Walker Scobell in the lead. Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on Disney+ on December 20, and on the same day on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
‘The Crown’ announces the release date for its sixth and final season
The highly-anticipated sixth and final season of The Crown is set to be released in two parts. The Netflix original series which chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II, will come to an end this year. The new season will be set between 1997 to 2005, with Part I exploring the divorce between Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and Part II will explore the aftermath of Diana’s tragic death. Tenet actress Elizabeth Debicki will essay the role of Princess Diana, while The Wire star Dominic West will play Prince Charles. Imelda Staunton, who is best known for playing the role of Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films, will reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth. Netflix has released a trailer and posters to announce the release dates of Parts I and II of Season 6. The Crown Season 6 Part I will premiere on November 16 while Part II will premiere on December 14.
