Speculations are abuzz that Suriya is likely to team up with TJ Gnanavel once again, post the success of Jai Bhim. Unconfirmed sources say this will be a quickie. However, we await an official word.
A source tells OTTplay, "It looks like the Vaadivaasal shoot will be delayed as Vetrimaaran has to finish Viduthalai that has Vijay Sethupathi and Soori. In the meantime, Suriya is looking to finish shooting for this untitled one. For now, he's focused on Bala's film (tentatively titled Suriya 41). The first schedule has been completed in Kanyakumari."
Inspired by a real-life landmark case which shed light on the custodial torture of a man from the Irula tribe, Jai Bhim was produced by Suriya and Jyotika under the banner of 2D Entertainment. The film has been winning widespread acclaim, ever since it got released on Amazon Prime Video.
Jai Bhim also got selected among the 276 feature films eligible for the 94th Academy Awards in the Best Picture category. Additionally, it was featured in the Academy’s popular spotlight section Scene At the Academy.
The courtroom drama, Jai Bhim, features Suriya, Lijomol Jose and Manikandan in key roles.
Jai Bhim was mired in controversies. While Jai Bhim has been predominantly hailed for its stand against oppression and casteism, a few sects have raised red flags against its portrayal of the Vanniyar community. The makers had to release a detailed statement saying their intention was not to target a particular community.
In an interview with Cinema Express, Gnanavel said, "In Jai Bhim, we could show only about a quarter of what the real incidents were. The violence was essential to illustrate the pain of the real victims.”
As for Suriya’s Vaadivaasal, the film is based on the Tamil novel of the same name written by CS Chellappa. Vetrimaaran had notably acquired the rights for adapting the novel as early as 2017. GV Prakash Kumar, a frequent collaborator of Vetrimaaran, is composing the music for the same.
