Raj B Shetty has not spoken much about what his film Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is about. What he has said is that a random telephone conversation with a lady he didn’t know earlier and the issues in her life that she found the courage to discuss with him was the inspiration behind the script of Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye. The actor-filmmaker had also said that he’s used glimpses of what he’s seen in the women around him, including his mother in putting together the character of Prerana. The film is releasing in theatres on November 24, and the trailer that is expected shortly is likely to shed light on what Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is all about.
In the meantime, as part of the film’s promotions, Raj has launched a creative contest for budding poets. Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, he says, is one of his most poetic works, so it is only apt that he ask those with a creative bent to put pen to paper to write poems about the essence of love and send it to the team of the film with the hashtag SMMHonNovember24. The best two entries will be read by Raj and his co-star Siri Ravikumar, a video of which will be shared on the day of the trailer launch.
Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is Kannada actress Ramya’s debut production under her banner Applebox Studios. The film was initially meant to be her comeback vehicle, but she and Raj later came to a consensus that the role was better suited for a relatively newer face and that is how Siri came into the picture. Filming was completed at breakneck speed in October last year, after which Raj made Toby, which has already had a theatrical outing. At the time, Raj had said that he believed that Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye was a perfect film for an OTT outing, but industry sources suggest that the team was unable to crack a deal, which became apparent when Ramya addressed the fact that mainstream streamers do not purchase Kannada content at a media house’s conclave.
