“Love marriages need a lot of work, while in arranged marriages, you’re handed a wife on a platter,” says Taapsee Pannu to Vikrant Massey in Netflix India’s latest YouTube video. Stating that men hardly make any efforts for their partners in arranged marriages, Taapsee Pannu recently took her Haseen Dillruba lead co-actor Vikrant Massey to task in a case of playful banter. Read on to know more.
The 3-minute-and-45-second-long YouTube video posted today starts with Vikrant Massey trying some homeopathic medicines, when Taapsee Paanu enters the frame and asks him if he has studied homeopathy as a subject. To this, Vikrant casually replies that it’s just a hobby, nothing more. This is followed by Taapsee trying to grill him more on the subject by asking for names of various homeopathic medicines related to hair fall, chest pain, and body ache and he replies satisfactorily. Finally, she reveals her desire for a honeymoon trip to Goa, and seems convinced when Vikrant replies in the affirmative for the coming week.
Aiming to find out more about her husband’s past relationships, and her place in his life, Taapsee interrogates Vikrant regarding his professor’s daughter who was pursuing Master’s in Home Science and was also willing to cook lasagne for Vikrant. Taapsee feels jealous and corners Vikrant asking if she is a consolation prize compared to the love of his life. Taken aback, Vikrant defends himself.
In the mood for further playful banter, Taapsee addresses the topic of cooking food and being unable to match Vikrant’s mother’s expertise in frying fritters, while feeling unsupported by her husband as a newlywed bride. She also compares love and arranged marriages, saying that the former needs a lot of hard work and effort, while the latter allows men to get everything without moving a limb, and hence, becoming unappreciative of all that the wife does for the husband selflessly. The video ends with Vikrant running to the bathroom and trying to gather his wits after what all his wife just told him.
The intricately rendered Haseen Dillruba by Vinil Mathew illustrates the precarious nature of arranged marriages. The characters of Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey have an arranged marriage in the film that explores the awkward silences and the discussions that pass for icebreakers.
