Teacher’s Day 2022: Gauahar Khan, Gulshan Devaiah on what ‘Shiksha’ means to them

Guahar Khan, Gulshan Devaiah and Pawan Raj Malhotra will next be seen sharing the screen in Shiksha Mandal, a web series that promises to shine a light on some of the darker aspects of the country’s education sector. The trio recently opened up about what education means to them.

In conversation with news agency IANS, Gauahar said that for her ‘shiksha’ or education went way beyond textbooks. For the actress it involved the entire school experience, and the wisdom teachers impart, which one is able to take with them for the entirety of their lives. “So, for me, Shiksha is everything that I've learnt from my teachers and it is how I use it in my practical life”, she said.

Her co-star Gulshan believed that shiksha is a form of empowerment, a right that every citizen is entitled to. Pawan spoke of the importance of education , saying that is what separated people from animals. He spoke of how education was important for everyone, as it informed and empowered people. The actor talked about the crucial role education played in helping people get employment, and how it allowed people to master many different languages. He said that it ‘completed’ a person, and it was a basic necessity today just like food, shelter and clothing. “The world is our oyster and with education, we can conquer it”, added Pawan.

Meanwhile, Shiksha Mandal is inspired by true events revolving around the story of one of the biggest education scams in the country. Syed Ahmad Afzal has written and directed the series, which also features Rajendra Sethi and Iram Badar Khan in prominent roles.

Shiksha Mandal will be available to stream on MX Player from September 15, 2022 onwards.
