The Last of Us season 2 has been trending since February. The show went under production in Vancouver, Canada, back then and will release in 2025. Some details, like the plot, are out. We know currently that this season, the makers are not going to follow everything that happened in the video game (out in 2020). Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal’s show was nominated in both Golden Globes as well as Emmy Awards, making it deserving to be called one of the best out there. Here’s everything to expect from the second season…
The Last of Us season 2 will not commence from where season 1 ended. There will be a time jump. Bella Ramsey, who is 20-year-old in real-life, will end up playing a 19-year old Ellie on-screen. The last time around, she played a 14-year-old. The time jump is also to show her changing dynamics with Joel (Pedro Pascal).
There are three more main characters on the show, and they’re all new faces. Kaitlyn Dever joins in as the second protagonist, Abby. A member of the Fireflies, like in the game, she is driven by her desire for revenge.
Ellie finds her love interest in Isabela Merced’s Dina. They got acquainted during the Jackson settlement.
The third face is Netflix series Beef’s star Young Mazino. He plays Dina’s ex-lover, Jesse.
Apart from that, Abby’s new friends (from the Seattle settlement) will be introduced. They are Danny Ramirez’s Manny, Ariela Barer’s Mel, Tati Gabrielle’s Nora, and Spencer Lord’s Owen. Schitt’s Creek famed Catherine O'Hara has been roped in as a guest on the show.
Jeffrey Wright is expected to come back as the leader of the Washington Liberation Front, Issac. Ian Alexander’s Lev, a transgender who escapes the cult, is expected to return too.
Fans are rightly concerned that Joel will die in the second season of the show. This is because the same happened in the game. Pascal had further hinted at the same to Esquire in April 2023 by stating, “If that does take place in the show, I don't know that I'm emotionally ready for it.” Craig Mazin, on the other hand, teased by telling Entertainment Weekly that the show will not follow the exact plot of the game. Interestingly, Joel’s death became a trigger point for Abby, since she found the courage to go ahead in the game after. It would definitely be something if the show deviates from the plot of the game. One thing we know for sure is that Joel has grown out his hair for the upcoming season. Ellie, too, has taken the guns. Clearly, one can expect a lot of surprises from this one.
