Udhayanidhi and Magizh Thirumeni have been busy with a project which commenced in 2020. After the initial schedules, Udhay became busy with his political assignments and a few other films because of which the movie's shooting was halted. Now, the team has announced the movie's title and unveiled a motion poster.

Kalagathalaivan is the title makers have come up for the film which has Nidhi Agerwal playing the female lead in it. The movie's 45-second motion poster, though offers no glimpse into the project's genre or plot, it hints at Udhay playing a complex character with multiple shades.

Kalagathalaivan is Udhay's first movie with Magizh and is billed as a thriller. Sreekanth Deva has composed music for the film which has cinematography and editing by Dilraj and Srikanth respectively. Udhay was last seen in Arunraja Kamaraj's Nenjuku Needhi (streaming on SonyLIV) and will be next seen in Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan.

Magizh's last outing was Arun Vijay-starrer Thadam (streaming on Jio Cinema and Sun NXT) which was released in 2019. The movie was later remade into Telugu and Hindi starring Ram Pothineni and Aditya Roy Kapoor respectively. Kalagathalaivan is being bankrolled by Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies.

The movie, along with Maamannan, were considered to be the last films of Udhay as an actor. He himself had confirmed the same recently. However, Kamal Haasan has now announced his new production venture with Udhay playing the lead in it.

The actor-politician has expressed his excitement on teaming up with the Ulaganayagan, leaving the former's fans confused. It looks like Udhay is in two minds about continuing his tryst with acting. Film lovers hope that he would soon come up with a clarification with this regard.
