Pa Ranjith's Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is hitting the screens on August 31; it is the filmmaker's first theatrical release in the pandemic era. His previous outing, Sarpatta Parambarai which was released last year, had a direct-to-OTT release on Amazon Prime Video.
Kalidas Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan essay lead roles in the film which has Kalaiyarasan, Vinoth and Harikrishnan among others essay key characters. The film revolves around a theatre group which has youngsters from different age groups. How they evolve as empathetic people after understanding the emotions of the LGBTQIA community forms its plotline.
The movie's audio launch which was held at Chennai the other day witnessed the participation of directors Venkat Prabhu and Vetrimaaran. In his speech, Vetri spoke about the changes Ranjith brought to the Tamil film industry with the effective usage of film language and political representation.
He also recollected watching Ranjith's debut movie Attakathi which was released a decade ago. According to Vetri, the movie was the beginning of many good things to happen to Kollywood. The Asuran filmmaker noted that Natchathiram Nagargiradhu will bring in many positive changes to Kollywood in terms of how the audience starts looking at relationships in a new perspective.
Vetri said, "After watching Attakathi, I felt the movie is the beginning of a new era. Similarly, I think Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is going to be an attempt which will initiate several positive and healthy conversations on the problems faced by LGBTQIA community like never before."
He added, "A sensible story that involves representation of the community was long due in Tamil cinema. I'm glad Ranjith has pulled it off now. He is set to revolutionize a new trend in Kollywood with this film." Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is releasing along with Cobra and Pisasu 2 on August 31.
