We had told you Thalapathy 67, produced by Lalit Kumar's Seven Screen Studio, will reunite Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay after their hit film, Master. Now, the latest buzz is that Thalapathy 67 will be co-produced by Xavier Britto. (He was one of the producers of Master). While we await official confirmation on the same, we hear the film is all set to go on floors on October 3. One may recall that even their previous collaboration Master went on floors sometime in October 2019.
Further, the buzz is that composer Yuvan Shankar Raja will likely be the music director of Thalapathy 67. Recently, Yuvan met Vijay at his residence and this fuelled rumours that the duo will join hands on the project.
Yuvan Shankar Raja and Vijay previously worked in the 2003 film Pudhiya Geethai. During a social media interaction, Yuvan said Vijay inspires him a lot and that he is eager to work with him.
Vijay, whose latest release was Beast, is shooting for Thalapathy 66, with director Vamshi Paidipally, who directed Nagarjuna and Karthi in Thozha.
As for Thalapathy 67, the makers are finalising the villain. Unconfirmed sources tell OTTplay that Sanjay Dutt has been approached to play the baddie, opposite Vijay, in this pan-India film. "Nothing has been finalised yet. An announcement will be made only post-August," the source, quickly, adds.
The script of Thalapathy 67 was originally written for Rajinikanth. It was speculated that Kamal Haasan would be producing it. But, later, it was called off as Rajinikanth didn't want to do the film. Multiple reports suggest that Lokesh Kanagaraj modified it accordingly after Vijay agreed to work with him again.
Vijay also has an upcoming film with Atlee, which is tentatively titled, Thalapathy 68. Both Atlee and Vijay are now held up with their respective projects. It is expected that this one will be announced officially in 2023.
Meanwhile, Lokesh Kanagaraj has Vikram, up for the release, starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil, in lead roles. The film will hit the screens on June 3. Lokesh had also announced a sequel to Kaithi with Karthi but it is not yet known when they are planning to begin the shoot.
