Wednesday Season 2 has been making rounds and creating buzz since its announcement in January 2023. However, while its premiere is still a long way off, this particular Addams may just steal the show.

Spun from the mind of genius director Tim Burton, Wednesday Season 1 won the National Television Award for Best New Drama, after its Netflix debut on November 23, 2022. It was also nominated for a record 12 Primetime Emmy nominations, including an acting one for protagonist Jenna Ortega, who is the youngest Latina performer to be nominated for it.
The show broke Tudum records, and almost caught up with Stranger Things 4 in terms of becoming the second biggest week streaming ever recorded by Nielson, with nearly six billion minutes during the first five days of viewership.
It is hoped that the show will start filming in April 2024, and stream on Netflix late 2024, or early 2025, though no release date is finalized yet. Yet, after the multiple twists in Season One’s climax, ranging from the betrayal of Miss Thornhill and Tyler to the apparent demise of Principal Weems and villainous ‘outcast’ hater Joseph Crackstone.
But the shooting of the eight-episode show got delayed due to the Hollywood strikes, which are now finally resolved. Therefore, Wednesday is on Netflix’s priority list regarding speedy production and premier. On November 13, 2023, Deadline also announced the change in shooting location, from Romania to Ireland, due to certain ‘logistical challenges.
Jenna Ortega, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, and Joy Sunday, who essay the roles of Wednesday, Tyler, Enid, and Bianca, revealed at Tudum: Global Fan Event that a new Addams family member will make their way onto the next season of Wednesday.
Though the actors revealed that they have no idea as of now who the new Addams is, Ortega has kept her fingers crossed for the cute Cousin Itt. As for Sunday and Doohan, they would love to be introduced to Wednesday’s cooky grandma Addams.
However, the VFX team from MARZ, responsible for the birth of the live action Thing, Uncle Fester and Ajax’s snakey locks, shared that the one character they would like the new season to focus on and explore the background, would be Thing.
In an interview with J-14, the team revealed that they would love to trace his origin, his backstory of torture and dismemberment, which must have been pretty gory to end up with nearly severed fingers of a hand, that were stitched back on it.
