It was rumoured in the last few days that actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello would not meet its October 27 date with audiences, which had already been pushed ahead from an earlier October 20. Since Rakshit was considering a Dasara release initially, it was thought that he could target another festival and, therefore, bring the film to theatres for Deepavali. November 10 was thought to be the date, but when we checked in with Rakshit last evening, he said that it would be November 17 instead and that an official announcement was nigh. That announcement has come in his own cryptic style. Instead of straightaway stating that Sapta Sagaradaache Ello is coming to theatres on November 17, he left it to his fans to do the maths and deduce the date. He wrote, “We thought we’d see you back in 7 weeks… destiny says 77 days. See you at the cinemas… everywhere.”

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, which director Hemanth shot as two films that he called Side A and Side B, had its first part out on September 1 without a hitch. Released only in Kannada at the time, although it was dubbed and ready to be deployed in other markets, the film did reasonably well in its original version. Subsequently, Rakshit released the Telugu version in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, but within a week, the film became available to stream in all languages on Amazon Prime Video, which, it is said, was a result of an earlier agreement with the streamer, entered into when Pushkara Mallikarjunaiah was listed as producer. Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, like 777 Charlie, is among the films that Rakshit took on from Pushkara.

The film is Rakshit’s second (and third) collaboration with Hemanth M Rao after Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu and has the actor in the role of Manu, a driver from a lower middle-class background, desperate to do better in life and provide the love of his life, Priya (Rukmini Vasanth) a brighter tomorrow. In doing so, though, he makes a misstep that costs him dearly. This part of the story is what Side A captured. Side B is set 10 years after the events of Side A, and will focus on Manu’s life and the wrongs he has to right.
