A classic that will never go out of style, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi never fails to delight viewers with its hilarious script and clever characters. The 1984 sitcom aired on DD National. Sharad Joshi wrote the script, while Kundan Shah, S. S. Oberoi, and Raman Kumar were the directors. Now that all the episodes are streaming on SonyLIV (also on OTTplay Premium), it is the right time to take a nostalgic trip and enjoy the golden era of Indian television.

Overview of Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi's theme and main characters

The comedy chronicles the charming couple Ranjit and Renu Verma, as well as Renu's irritating younger brother Raja and their humorous exploits, and features an ensemble cast that includes Shafi Inamdar, Swaroop Sampat, Rakesh Bedi, and Satish Shah. Every episode is filled with laughter and amusement as Satish Shah surprises everyone by slipping into a new eccentric role.

Season one featured Shafi Inamdar as Ranjit Verma and Swaroop Sampat as Renu. The show revolved around the comedic antics of the Vermas. Raja, Renu's younger brother and unemployed actor, and Rashmi, Chachi's daughter, were the other members of the wedded couple's entourage. Actors Vijay Kashyap and Sulabha Arya played Ranjit's Bengali neighbours, Tiku Talsania played Ranjit's boss, and so on.

Satish Shah's iconic performance

From the pilot episode to the final episode, Satish Shah's portrayal of the characters was instantly recognisable as Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. Shah portrayed a central figure in each episode as a new character. While some of these people may be friends of the Vermas' family or complete strangers, they hail from all over India and represent a wide range of occupations and locations. In 1984 and 1986, the entertainment media named Satish the "King of Comedy" due to his diverse roles on the show.

Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi set a new standard and enthralled audiences thanks to its captivating title track, which featured the renowned Kishore Kumar.
