The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise from Marvel is not permanently dead, according to Zoe Saldaña. It would be a "huge loss" for the MCU to part ways with its motley crew of intergalactic heroes, the actor stated earlier this week.

Zoe Saldaña's insights on the impact and importance of the Guardians of the Galaxy

During her appearance on The Playlist, Saldaña expressed her belief that Marvel would suffer greatly if the Guardians of the Galaxy were not revived. It's just that this ragtag bunch of misfits is so beloved by the audience. Then they had James Gunn, whose writing is absolutely unique to this genre and has a wonderful voice, at the helm.

In the three Guardians films produced by Marvel, Saldaña portrayed Gamora. The original Guardians of the Galaxy included her, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket the Raccoon. Gamora and the rest of the gang have made appearances in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films, such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Gamora's future and Saldaña's commitment to the franchise

Saldaña further shared that she meant it seems like Gamora is finished with her for the time being, but she doesn't think she's gone for good.

After writer-director James Gunn closed the third film by forming a new team consisting of returning characters Rocket and Groot as well as newcomers Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Cosmo (Maria Bakalova), and Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Marvel has yet to reveal plans for a fourth Guardians film.

Saldaña added, underscoring that she would be among the first to cheer the return of the Guardians of the Galaxy, that her personal closure over the series is unrelated to her love for the series.

Zoe Saldaña's diverse roles beyond Guardians of the Galaxy: Neytiri in Avatar

Apart from Gamora, Saldaña has been playing the role of Neytiri in James Cameron's Avatar franchise. She first appeared as a princess of the Na'vi clan, Omaticaya, in Avatar (2009) and then in Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). The actor will be reprising the iconic role in the forthcoming three Avatar films.
