The critically acclaimed superhero television series is set in a universe where the general public recognises individuals with superhuman abilities, who work for the corporation Vought International, which markets and monetizes them, as heroes. Most of them, outside of their superhero personas, are arrogant and corrupt. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the primary focus is on two entities: the Seven, who are Vought’s premier superhero team, and the eponymous Boys, who set out to take down Vought and its facade of righteousness. Along with the animosity between the two groups, the new season introduces the novel character of Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. The cast includes Karl Urban reprising his role as William ‘Billy’ Butcher along with Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, and Laurie Holden, among others.

Diabolically deranged, hit Amazon superhero show chooses scandal over subtlety
The Boys is an irreverent, bloody, funny and sort of crazy take on the superhero genre.
The Boys is as gratuitous with blood-splattering, viscera gouging and skull-smashing as it gets, but it slides into a bit of a sophomore slump as the signature snark and dark humour of the first season gives way to more ultra-violence.
The colour palette is dark like the DCEU but The Boys isn’t bogged down by taking itself too seriously unlike that universe.
