Aditya Thakare made his Bollywood debut with Dhadak 2. He played the role of Vasu alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi's Neelesh and Triptii Dimri's Vidhi. His Vasu role left an impact and added value to the theme of the film, which dealt with casteism. In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Aditya was asked whether Dhadak 2 was overshadowed by the blockbuster success of Saiyaara or not.
He said, "I think box office collection is just numbers. We can't judge based on those numbers. Obviously, Saiyaara has performed very well, and I am very happy for all the people who were part of it. But Dhadak 2 has its own space amid Saiyaara's blockbuster success. It can't be justified by the numbers."
Aditya further added, "I think these are all terminologies. We don't think about it much. While making the film, we hope people will love the film, so whatever love we are getting after the 1st of August, it's coming as a blessing in disguise because everyone has been praising Dhadak 2, its dialogue, and emotions. So I think the film has its own space, and it has performed well regarding this."
Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is a spiritual sequel to the 2018 film Dhadak and a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018).
The story revolves around a law student, Neelesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), who falls in love with his classmate, Vidhi (Triptii Dimri), despite the societal barriers of caste and class. Their relationship faces harassment and prejudice from Vidhi's family, resulting in a heartbreaking romantic drama with a strong social commentary. This film explores themes of race, identity, and the consequences of defying social norms.
After its theatrical run, Dhadak 2 will be released on Netflix. Although the exact release date on OTT has not been announced, movies usually arrive on streaming platforms within six to eight weeks of their theatrical release. Following this timeline, Dhadak 2 is expected to air on Netflix between September 12 and September 26, 2025.
