Cinematography was by Priyan, while editing was handled by VT Vijayan. Saamy turned out to be one of the biggest hits in Vikram's career. The success of Saamy, also paved the way for many more films where the lead actors played a policeman.

Saamy was remade in a number of languages- Lakshmi Narasimha starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in Telugu, Ayya starring Darshan in Kannada, Barood starring Mithun Chakraborty in Bengali and Policegiri starring Sanjay Dutt in Hindi.

A sequel to Saamy was released in 2018, which starred Keerthy Suresh and Aishwarya Rajesh as the leading ladies. The film was helmed by Hari but it failed to rake in the moolah at the box office. Vikram, in the meantime, is basking in the success of his latest release, Ponniyin Selvan 2, in which plays Chola Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan.
