Amid criticism over singing his own tracks, Anirudh Ravichander explains how familiarity, tight shoot schedules and creative comfort often make demo vocals turn into final chart-topping songs.

Anirudh Ravichander, who is one of the most happening music composers in south cinema, has been facing a criticism for a long time now. A certain section of fans has criticised Anirudh for long that he sings for most of the songs in the films he scores for, leaving the opportunities for playback singers to take up the opportunity. Anirudh Ravichander, whose recent score for the KHxRK reunion glimpse promo, has given audience many memorable songs. While his music has uplifted many films, fans have also criticised about how Anirudh sings for most of his songs, thus not employing playback singers as much as singers as he can.
At a panel organised by News18 Townhall Chennai, Anirudh Ravichander was asked about music directors turning singers. He replied, "Generally when we make a song, and a film director is going to shoot in next 3-4 days. For that time, we just sing the song for them to shoot. You will know that you need a specific voice for that song later. The problem is that when they go to shoot, they hear that multiple times, edit with that version so many times. So, when you are used to hearing something so many times, it becomes difficult to change. 99% when I sing a song, I will change the voice later but the director would want the old version. It is the matter of familiarity. What we learnt in the last few years is that we should not be lazy and record with a new voice and give."
Anirudh Ravichander also spoke about his song Enakenna which he had composed a decade earlier and was used recently in Love Insurance Kompany. The composer revealed that he thought Arijit Singh's voice was suitable but later went with his own voice.
