Salman Khan's Sikandar was released in theaters in March 2025. Although the film created buzz, it failed to impress at the box office. In a new interview, Murugadoss opened up about Sikandar's box office failure and said that he admitted that he could not execute it well.

In a recent interview with Velaipechu Voice, filmmaker AR Murugadoss said that Sikandar’s underwhelming performance at the box office is due to a language barrier. “Actually, the base story is very emotional,” he said.
It’s about a king who doesn’t truly understand his wife. We are all like that — whether it’s with our mother, friend, or wife, we often don’t value relationships. Only when someone leaves us forever do we feel the weight of guilt. In the film, when the king loses his wife, her organs are donated to three different people. He then seeks them out, trying to fulfill the things he couldn’t do for her. In the process, he befriends an entire village. The story was emotional, but I couldn’t execute it well," he said.

Speaking about the difference between Ghajini and Sikandar, Murugadoss said that he could pull off Ghajini because it was a remake, not an original script. He had already done it before, so he had complete command. However, with Sikandar, that wasn’t the case. He did not say he won’t return to Hindi cinema. "I definitely will if I find my comfort zone. But when the audience can’t connect with my thinking, it affects me deeply," he concluded.
Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, directed by A. R. Murugadoss, revolves around Sanjay Sikandar Rajkot (played by Salman Khan), a powerful figure in Rajkot, who faces a corrupt system and fights for the rights of the underprivileged. The film is now streaming on Netflix.
