The latest Malayalam movie Baby Girl, starring actor Nivin Pauly, Sangeeth Prathap and Lijomol Jose, has been struggling at the box office. However, the Arun Varma directorial has found support from noted filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan, who has said that he found the movie thrilling and it deserves to be watched in theatres.

What Mahesh Narayanan said about Baby Girl

The 2026 movie Baby Girl released in theatres on January 23, but opened to middling reviews and the box office performance has been dismal too. Amid this, Patriot director Mahesh Narayanan has given a shoutout to the Nivin Pauly-starrer. The Baby Girl makers have posted a video of Mahesh Narayanan praising the movie.

“I saw the film Baby Girl. The film remains suspenseful from the beginning till the end. This film thrilled the writer, director and viewer in me. It has been a long time since I enjoyed such a movie,” remarked the Take Off director.

Touching upon the film’s central theme, the director said that Baby Girl discusses many topics, including that of motherhood and a brother-sister bond. The noted filmmaker also said that the performance of Lijomol Jose and Sangeeth Prathap, who played the siblings, was really good.

“I feel that such movies need active audience participation. This movie has several moments that will connect audiences, especially women,” said Mahesh Narayanan, whose upcoming film Patriot with Mammootty and Mohanlal will hit theatres in April 2026.

Mahesh Narayanan, an editor-turned-filmmaker, had previously edited several movies, including the acclaimed movie Traffic. Both Traffic and Baby Girl have been penned by noted writers Bobby-Sanjay.

What is Baby Girl box office collection

Baby Girl is Nivin Pauly's first film to release this year after the blockbuster success of Sarvam Maya. But Baby Girl opened to just Rs 0.75 crore and was followed by 0.72 crore on day 2, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The net collection of Baby Girl is just Rs 1.47 crore. On the other hand, the film Chatha Pacha, which released on January 22 has been performing better, collecting over Rs 14.60 crore.
