Theatres being shut in Maharashtra and restrictions like 50% occupancy in theatres in many states could be the reasons for its low performance on an opening day,

Akshay Kumar-starrer movie Bell Bottom which released on August 19 hasn't had a great start at the box office. The film has ranked in collections around Rs 2.5 crore on the opening day.
According to media reports, the reason why the collection is low is the restrictions due to the pandemic and the film not releasing in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, the theatres are still shut even though the malls have reopened.
It is estimated that in Maharashtra, a film bags approximately 30% more than collections from any other state, taking the real value in the present scenario to Rs 3.25 crore. The theatre moguls PVR, INOX and Cinepolis have managed to collect Rs 1.50 crore on the first day for this film which is approximately 20% lower than Roohi the March 2021 release that collected Rs 1.88 crore from the three chains. However, unlike Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s horror comedy, Bell Bottom could not fetch a theatrical release in Maharashtra. The film director Ranjit M Tewari had also expressed his disappointment about it. Speaking to ToI, the filmmaker said, “I understand the need of the government to keep them shut for some time; they know the situation better than all of us. You have to respect their decision too. But, from my end, of course, it's disappointing. I would have loved for people of Maharashtra to see the film too and I hope theatres here open soon.”
The film trade analysts were expecting Bell Bottom to open with Rs 5 crore mark but the opening figures are almost half of what was expected. On the positive side, Bell Bottom is receiving good reviews from audiences and the critics alike. Hopefully, the film will record a steady trend over the next few weeks to put up a decent performance at the box office.
