Chatha Pacha star Vishak Nair: 'I enjoy portraying shady and enigmatic roles' | Exclusive

Malayalam film, Chatha Pacha, made its OTT debut on Netflix this week. Vishak Nair's portrayal of Cherian earned the most attention, despite the fact that all of the film's main actors drew praise. The young actor discussed how he perceives Cherian and why he enjoys portraying characters with a grey shade in an interview with OTTplay.

Who is Cherian in Chatha Pacha?

According to Vishak, he believes Cherian has always been someone who did not get the affection and attention that he deserved. "Cherian sees himself as the hero. He is a wealthy man. However, there are profoundly ingrained insecurities on the inside," he stated. The actor went on to say that his toxic connection with his father is the source of his reservations. "Everything Cherian does is done to honor or preserve his father's legacy. That's also why Cherian seems a little eccentric," he said.

"He doesn't have to be likeable, but you might think for a while that there's a bit of good in his part. There's no right or wrong, it's a matter of perspective. My job is to make an audience feel empathetic even for a moment comprehending his point of view," he added.

Do Vishak enjoy playing negative characters?

The actor said that he particularly enjoys portraying characters who are morally shady and murky. "In this context, there are actors that I truly admire. The characters that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have portrayed are more or less problematic types, notwithstanding the fact that my current favourite actor is Mammootty. And all those characters are, in fact, just as humane as anybody. Now, I can't think of a single boy who lives next door who isn't a moron or troublemaker behind closed doors. Such people, in my opinion, have a bit more nuance," he said.

Vishak claimed that he prefers to play characters that don't fit into any certain archetype. "I am very conscious of it now since I was a victim of an archetype from the start after playing Kuppi in Anandam. Sincerely, I now look out for a little more complexity in the roles offered to me," he added.
