Dhruva Sarja ‘cheating case’: Raghavendra Hegde, who’d earlier made Jaggu Dada with Challenging Star Darshan, has filed a complaint against Dhruva Sarja, claiming the actor

A major development in Sandalwood on August 9 was that an FIR was filed against Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja in an alleged cheating case. The complainant in this case is filmmaker Raghavendra Hegde, who’d made the Darshan starrer Jaggu Dada earlier. Hegde claims to have paid Dhruva a little over Rs 3 cr way back in 2018, after the latter persuaded him to collaborate.

Dhruva is said to have given Hegde the script of a film, after a story that the latter was working on did not work out beyond a first half. But despite a formal agreement between the duo, the actor, allegedly, repeatedly asked for the start of the project to be pushed ahead and eventually stopped responding to the filmmaker’s requests to go on floors. Hegde has now filed a complaint in Mumbai, where he is based, seeking return of his money, with interest.

Speaking on behalf of the actor, his manager Ashwin confirms that there was a monetary exchange, but claims that the delay was on Hegde’s behalf, who insisted on making the film in, say, Telugu or Hindi and then dubbing it to Kannada, while Dhruva wanted it to be a straight Kannada film. The issue, he adds, is that Hegde is not willing to make it as a Kannada film, as it will affect business prospects, what with satellite and digital platforms not investing in the industry.
Ashwin claims that Dhruva has been willing to allot dates at different points of time, including later this year, once he’s done with the promotions of KD The Devil, with their latest meeting having happened in late June. But then, a couple of weeks later, Hegde decided to proceed legally.
The film in question was supposed to be made based on a script by Chakravarthy Chandrachud, who was introduced to Hegde by Dhruva. Chakravarthy was then asked to serve as creative head on the project and says that he was surprised by the latest turn of events. Dhruva, he says, was very keen to do the film.
