While 2023 saw some surprise hits such as Unni Mukundan’s Malikappuram and Soubin Shahir’s Romancham to go with blockbusters such as Tovino Thomas’ 2018 and Shane Nigam’s RDX, Dileep’s Voice of Sathyanathan is often ignored in this list. The Raffi directorial has, in fact, emerged as a sleeper hit in the film industry this year.

The movie, which marked Dileep’s first theatrical release since the pandemic, has gone on to collect close to Rs 20 crore from Kerala box office alone. The film has already recovered its revenue and has now completed the 41-day window that Kerala theatre exhibitors have now enforced for its OTT release.

The Dileep-starrer, which also has Anupam Kher, Veena Nandakumar, Joju George and Jagapathi Babu, had hit theatres in Kerala in the final week of July and had got a decent run for a month – with the family audience contributing to the majority of the footfalls.

With Jailer, Onam releases such as King of Kotha, RDX and Ramachandra Boss & Co and now, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan playing in majority of the theatres, it’s no mean feat for a movie to have completed 41 days in theatres in Kerala during this period.

The movie is now expected to begin streaming on Manorama Max , which is also available on OTTplay Premium, from September 15 onwards. The makers are yet to officially announce the OTT release date, but with it set to clock 50 days and its theatrical run ending, September 15 is the likely streaming date of the film, which is scripted and directed by Raffi.

Dileep gears up for Bandra’s release

Dileep is also set to resume the shoot of Arun Gopy’s Bandra, which also marks Tamannaah’s Malayalam debut. The film, which also has Neil Nitin Mukesh, Dino Morea and Sarathkumar, is expected to wrap up shoot after a song sequence that will be filmed from September 10 in Kochi.

The actor is also part of Ratheesh Reghunandan’s directorial titled Thankamani, which has Neeta Pillai and Pranita Subhash. The movie is based on a true incident that happened in the 1980s.
