Vijay had announced that he will be quitting from his illustrious cinematic life, to become a politician. He floated his own party, Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam, and has been going across Tamil Nadu for campaigns. He had also announced his intentions to contest in the 2026 Assembly elections, making Jana Nayagan his final film.

Naturally fans are quite excited for Jana Nayagan, which was first announced as October release, only to be pushed to January 2026 as Pongal release. The makers had locked January 9 as release date. But as per new buzz doing rounds on social media, it looks the release is a little shaky. This is attributed to an unfortunate incident that took place during one of Vijay’s campaign rallies. In September, Vijay’s rally in Karur saw a stampede resulting in death of 40 people. This has created a dent in Vijay’s career. Further, the makers also have not announced any update on the film, given the talks that Jana Nayagan’s first single will be out for Diwali. An official announcement on Jana Nayagan is awaited.

Meanwhile, fans of Suriya want Karuppu to take over the festive window. With the makers yet to confirm on the release date, it would be apt for Karuppu to have Pongal release, given no major Tamil films are planning for that week.
