Dulquer Salmaan, who is gearing up for Kaantha release, gives some insights on the his possible collaboration with his superstar father Mammootty.

Actor Dulquer Salmaan is gearing up for the release of his next film Kaantha, which is a period drama set in the 1950s. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on November 14, Friday. Fresh off the success of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, Dulquer who backed the film and also appeared in a cameo role, is almost certain that his first ever collaboration with his father and Malayalam star Mammootty will be for one of the films in Lokah universe.

Maamootty, the megastar of Malayalam cinema, had only lent his voice for brief time in the recently released Malayalam film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. However, that was more than enough for fans to get excited to anticipate Maamootty and Dulquer Salmaan collaboration. For the unversed, in Lokah’s first instalment, Dulquer Salmaan who had backed the film, had also made a cameo appearance as Odiyan. His character is expected to get full-length role in the upcoming chapters of Lokah. However, the film also featured a brief voiceover by Maamootty for the character Moothon.

In a recent interview on the sidelines of promoting Kaantha, Dulquer spoke to Behindwoods channel and said, “We did not know what the film will become, it was experimental and big budget. It was also difficult to find buyers because it's a five-part story.” When he was further questioned into asking about Mammootty’s character in the Lokah universe and if that is the first time the father-son combination will come, Dulquer said, “I think not before that...even this, we had to convince him. I am proud that even as I am acting for 14 years, and when he says a yes, I have earned it. He is not someone to say yes because I am his son. He is supportive though, because he was taken aback by the budget.”

Directed by Dominic Arun, the film is expected to be a five-part franchise, with the second to revolve around Tovino Thomas’ chattan character.
