How much Kalamkaval made in pre-saless?

The advance bookings for Kalamkaval opened recently, with the pre-sales showing a positive trend. Mammootty’s production company had recently released the figures for day 1, claiming Rs 1.25 crore has already been earned. The Jithin K Jose directorial has collected Rs 1.60 crore in advance sales, as per reports on Malayalam channels, with 93k tickets sold.

Online industry trackers, on the other hand, are predicting that Kalamkaval will end its pre-sales around Rs 2.5 crore by EOD on Thursday, on the eve of its release. The GCC pre-sales of Kalamkaval have also been seeing an upward trend with Rs 45 lakh already collected, as per reports. The record for the biggest pre-sale for a Malayalam film is held by Mohanlal’s film L2 Empuraan, with a whopping Rs 15 crore. The last movie to feature Mammootty in a grey-shaded role was Bramayugam, which was a winner at the box office and also won him the Kerala State Best Actor Award.

Mammootty and His Many Shades

Mammootty is yet to score a hit in 2025, as both his previous movies - Bazooka and Dominic and the Ladies' Purse - garnered mixed reviews and were average fares at the box office. Bazooka released in theatres in April 2025 and had registered pre-sales of Rs 1.50 crore from 938 shows, which was then the second best pre-sales number for the year after Empuraan.

The Mammootty film with the highest pre-sales figure is Turbo, the 2024 movie helmed by Vysakh, that recorded Rs 3.5 crore in advance bookings. The second film of the megastar with the most pre-sales is Bheeshma Parvam, which made Rs 2.35 crore, while his CBI 5 is in the third spot with Rs 2.05 crore.

Going by the pre-sales of Kalamkaval, the Mammotty-starrer is set for a solid opening but the film needs to open to positive talk to maintain the momentum. There is much hype around the film, with the teaser and trailer painting Mammootty’s character as a sinister person. But the makers have not confirmed whether he would be seen as an out-and-out villain.
