Kalyani Priyadarshan says her dad mentioned the success of these 2 Mohanlal films to spur her on after Lokah's success

Kalyani said the success of Lokah is so overwhelming that she wondered what could beat the superhero film. But her father told about the success story of Mohanlal's Chithram and Kilukkam.

Kalyani Priyadarshan has literally climbed the pinnacle of success with her latest movie Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, becoming the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film beating the likes of Mohanlal’s Empuraan. This level of success, that too at such a young age, is phenomenal for an actress who only has a handful of films to her name. Kalyani said that it is so overwhelming that she wondered what could beat it, but her father motivated her with the success story of two Mohanlal films - Chithram and Kilukkam.

Kalyani Priyadarshan mulled quitting films?

The Lokah team has been travelling places, promoting their film, which is already a blockbuster. The team is currently in Uk, where Kalyani responded that she is just beginning to process the magnitude of Lokah’s success.

“I told Achha, I think I should resign after this, I don’t know what can beat this. He said when their film Chithram ran for 365 days, they thought they had peaked. But two years later Kilukkam came (which was a bigger success). Don't think this is the highest you can go. Keep moving on,” Kalyani said, recounting her father’s inspirational words.

For the unversed, Kalyani’s father Priyadarshan is one of the most successful Malayalam filmmakers, having delivered several hits, especially with superstar Mohanlal, during the late 1980s and 1990s. Priyadarshan and Mohanlal collaborated on Chithram in 1988, which resonated with the audiences and was a hit.

The duo again collaborated for Kilukkam, released in 1991, which was an instant hit for its rib-tickling comedy and heart-warming emotional scenes. Scenes featuring Mohanlal and actor Jagathy have attained a cult status. Kilukkam was also among the highest-grossing films at the time. Both Chithram and Kilukkam are streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium.

On the other hand, Lokah is helmed by Dominic Arun and backed by actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan. Naslen also appears in a key role in the film, which is the first of a five-part franchise.
