Kothalavadi OTT release date: The first production venture of Yash’s mother Pushpa Arunkumar was a box office washout, but has still landed a digital streaming partner

Earlier this week, Pushpa Arunkumar, whose debut venture was Kothalavadi, had revealed that she’d sold the digital streaming rights of the film all five languages to Amazon Prime Video. Considering that the film released in theatres on August 1 and was past the 30-day mark, it was expected to drop on the platform soon and the confirmation came on September 4. Kothalavadi, starring Pruthvi Ambaar and Gopalkrishna Deshpande in the lead will be available to stream on Prime Video from September 5, 2025.

Trouble during theatrical release

Kothalavadi, which also starred Kavya Shaiva and Rajesh Nataranga, among others, released only a week after the hit comedy Su From So and 2 weeks after Ekka. It was also one of 4 new Kannada releases in theatres, so, naturally, getting screens and shows was going to be a challenge. Pushpa, however, later alleged that her film was wilfully sabotaged by the distributor, who refused to give her the screens that she had blocked weeks in advance.

Directed by Sriraj, Kothalavadi is the name of a fictional riverside village, where crop failure and drought has the villagers nose-dive into terrible debt. When they are then told that it would not be wrong for them to sell the sand from ‘their’ river, they fall prey and become part of an illegal mining operation. Marketed as a Pruthvi Ambaar starrer, Kothalavadi, according to reviews, had Gopalkrishna Deshpande with the juiciest part.
