Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, who shot to national fame with the actioner Marco, is now set to star in a biopic and that too of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The film has been titled Maa Vande, helmed by Kranthi Kumar CH. The announcement, which has come across as a surprise for Malayalam cinephiles, was made on Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17, 2025.

The life story of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in particular his relationship with mother, Heeraben Modi, will be depicted in the upcoming biopic Maa Vande, which will have Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan in the lead role.
Unni Mukundan, who spent his childhood in Gujarat, Modi's home state, has also confirmed the exciting collaboration on social media. He took to Facebook to pen a long letter, recounting his brief interaction with the PM and his words of 'Jhookvanu Nahi', meaning Never Bow Down, that gave him 'strength and resolve'.
Apart from Unni Mukundan in the lead role, other details of the cast have not been revealed. The film will release in all major Indian languages, including Hindi and English.

As per The Hollywood Reporter India, director Kranthi Kumar will also pen the script for the film, which has roped KK Senthil Kumar as the cinematographer, Sreekar Prasad, as the editor. Ravi Basrur of KGF and Marco fame is the composer for Maa Vande, with Sabu Cyril as the production designer.
However, this is not the first biopic on Narendra Modi, the former Gujarat Chief Minister. A film, titled PM Narendra Modi, was released in 2019 with Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi playing the Prime Minister.
On the other hand, Unni Mukundan was last seen in Get Set Baby, which had a lacklustre run at the cinemas and is yet to make its digital debut. Prior to that, the actor played the menacing Marco in the 2024 actioner, which is considered the most brutal action film from Malayalam. Some of Unni Mukundan's popular Malayalam films are Malikappuram, Vikramadithyan and Mallu Singh. He also made a short appearance in superstar Mohanlal's Bro Daddy, which also starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Lokah star Kalyani Priyadarshan
