Actor and comedian Madhan Bob, who predominantly worked in Tamil film industry, died on Saturday evening. Known for his expressive laugh and often appeared in comic and supporting roles in films like Friends, and Thenali, the actor was 71 at time of his death. The industry fraternity paid their last respects to Madhan Bob's mortal remains kept at his residence in Chennai.

Madhan Bob died to long-term illness at the age of 71 on Saturday. It was during the later hours of the day, the actor took his last breath. As per reports, he had been battling cancer and died at his home in Adyar, Chennai. Born as Krishnamoorthy, he was the eighth child in his family. He started out as a medical representative, and went on to have a career shift to music, even as his family is musically inclined. He is also known to be one of the mentors of AR Rahman. Madhan Bob later transitioned to acting and often appeared in comical roles. He was known by his expressive laugh and facial expressions.
Madhan Bob made his debut with the 1984 film Neengal Kettavai. Subsequently, he went on to act in films like Magalir Mattum, Nammavar, Thenali, Friends, and more. He has nearly 200 Tamil films to his credit.
Members from the industry paid their last respects to Madhan Bob whose mortal remains were kept in Chennai. Directed P Vasu called him dear friend, and said that Madhan Bob's death is a loss to the whole industry. "His laugh is unique and cannot be forgotten. He comes from a musical family, and I remember telling how music is the best medicine. But it is a sad thing that he got affected by cancer and I was shocked to know his status. He acted in Chandramukhi in only one scene, but it stood apart. He was a talented actor and it is a great loss."
Filmmaker, actor, and choreographer Prabhudheva was one of the first to react to Madhan Bob's demise and wrote on X, "We shared the screen, and his presence always brought joy to the set. Cheerful, kind, and full of humour he made everyone feel happy around him. Heartfelt condolences to his family. He’ll always be remembered."
Director KS Ravikumar visited his house and speaking to media said, “There is very less people who laugh out loud like him. He was a nice man and I lost one of my friends. A good soul and we shared a lot of experiences. He recalled about how it was during the re-recording of Thenali he came to know through AR Rahman that Madhan Bob has taught him as well.”
Actor Nasser also spoke to media and recalled, "I remember all the comedy he performed. He was a great friend, and a very good musician. His laugh is still echoing in my earns."
