Nadanna Sambhavam producer opens up on Biju Menon promotions’ row, cites example of Tovino Thomas' film

Nadanna Sambhavam's producer Anoop Kannan said that actor Biju Menon turned up for just 2.5 hours on a day for the movie promotions when the contract clearly stated 10 days.

After Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) general secretary B Unnikrishnan called out actor Biju Menon for skipping movie promotions and causing a loss of Rs 25 lakh to the producer, cinephiles were curious to know the details about the issue. Now, it has been revealed that producer-director Anoop Kannan had lodged a complaint with the producers’ association against Biju Menon for not attending film promotions. The film in question is Nadanna Sambhavam. In an interview with Manorama Online, Anoop Kannan also drew comparisons with Tovino Thomas’ film Oru Mexican Aparatha wherein he benefited from the cooperation of the cast.

Noted Malayalam actor Biju Menon played the lead role in the 2024 film Nadanna Sambhavam, along with Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film’s producer Anoop Kannan, who had also directed the Mammootty-starrer movie Jawan of Vellimala, said that Biju Menon turned up for just 2.5 hours on a day for promotion for the movie when the contract clearly stated 10 days.

“I share a long-time bond with Biju chettan. But he turned up for promotions only for 2.5 hours on a day,” the producer told Manorama Online.

Pointing out that the OTT-satellite deal of Nandanna Sambhavam was locked even before release, he said that the business deal required the stars to take part in all release-related events. “Though he initially agreed, he then dodged my requests. I had filed a complaint to the producers' association, who assured me that a solution would be found before his next film release. But Valathe Vashathe Kallan released a few days ago. I will seek more clarity from the association and if I don’t get justice, I will take a legal course,” Anoop said.

Anoop also cited the example of Tovino Thomas’ film Oru Mexican Aparatha, which released in 2017. That film was promoted well by the cast, got a better reach and everyone benefited from it, he remarked.

On the other hand, Valathe Vashathe Kallan released in theatres on January 30. Jeethu Joseph had helmed the film. Biju Menon had attended only the post-release press meet of the thriller film.
