Thalapathy fans are struggling to come to terms with the fact that Tamil star Vijay’s farewell film Jana Nayagan will not be making its big release on January 9, 2026, as the H Vinoth movie gets caught in censor troubles. However, probably seeking to take advantage of the situation, the makers of the Malayalam film Pennu Case have announced an early arrival. The Nikhila Vimal-starrer will release in theatres on January 10, 2026, with paid premieres on January 9.

When will Pennu Case movie release

The upcoming film Pennu Case, which was scheduled to release on January 16 2026, will now hit theatres on January 10. No major Malayalam movies were scheduled for release in theatres this weekend, but two Tamil biggies - Vijay’s Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi - were set to hit cinemas ahead of the Pongal festival. But as uncertainty loomed over Jana Nayagan’s release with an impending postponement on the cards, the makers of Pennu Case announced that the Febin Sidharth directorial will arrive early. However, the makers have not given any reason for the early release. Pennu Case also features Sarvam Maya actor Aju Varghese, Hakim Shahjahan, Ramesh Pisharody, and Irshad Ali, among others.

Why is Jana Nayagan postponed

The Tamil film, Jana Nayagan, is much anticipated as it marks popular actor Vijay’s final movie before he enters full-time politics. However, the H Vinoth directorial is yet to get the Censor certificate, with the CBFC seeking more changes. The makers approached the Madras High Court, but the HC reserved its plea. With no other respite in sight, the Jana Nayagan producers issued a statement late on January 7 to confirm that the film has been postponed with no update on when the Vijay film will be released in theatres.

The other Tamil film Parasakthi is also yet to receive its censor certificate, though the stars have been busy promoting the film. Parasakthi is slated to release on January 10.
