Fans react to AI-altered ending of Raanjhanaa

The AI-generated ending of Raanjhanaa received mixed responses from fans. While some said that Kundan and Zoya finally have a happy ending, some argued that there are some movies which do not need happy endings.

One fan said, "#Raanjhanaa Kundhan being alive, it's not worth. Anand ended it more beautifully, thats how it should be. #Ambikapathy."

One tweet read, "What does this achieve? Are they saying that Sonam and him live happily ever after?" "Crowd is cheering. They are getting the comfort for which they come for. What's the harm!" said another.

"This should be re-released with this ending," another person said.

One comment read, "Tough to pick between original ending where Kundan dies and AI altered version where he survives. But I'm sticking with the original. It hits harder and is the reason I fell in love with the film."

Another review read, "They didn’t just change the ending of Raanjhanaa using AI, they ripped the soul out of the movie."

A comment read, "It feels weird to see the other side as we loved the previous and original one, but at least now we know both the ends." "Some movies don't need happy endings. That's why it's special. The last monologue is the heart of the movie," said another fan.

Aanand L Rai reacts to the AI-altered ending

The director of Raanjhanaa, Aanand L Rai recently shared a post reacting to the AI-altered ending of the film on Instagram.

In a long note, he called it "deeply upsetting." "The past three weeks have been surreal, and deeply upsetting. To watch Raanjhanaa, a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, be altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating. What makes it worse is the complete ease and casualness with which it's been done," a part of his note read.

Raanjhanaa original story

Raanjhanaa is about Kundan (Dhanush), a young man from Varanasi who is deeply in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor), a girl from his town. The story takes a turn when Zoya returns from college with a new perspective and a different boyfriend, Akram (Abhay Deol), which leads to a series of dramatic events.
