The success story of Kannada actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty’s latest production, Su From So, is one for the text books. Directed by actor-filmmaker JP Thuminad as his debut, Su From So, which was made at a modest budget of Rs 4.5 cr to Rs 5 cr, with another Rs 1 cr to Rs 1.5 cr spent on the theatrical release expenses and subsequent promotions, has made it to the Rs 100 cr (gross) club on Day 23 of its box office run, with around Rs 93 cr coming from the Kannada original version. The film is far from done with its theatrical run and is set for a good 5th weekend too.

Su From So among top 10 highest grossing Kannada films

Su From So is now on the list of the top 10 highest grossing Kannada films, which includes the likes of KGF: Chapter 1 and 2, Kantara, 777 Charlie, Vikrant Rona, James, among others. What’s interesting is that barring Kantara and Su From So, the others are all star-led projects, justifying the box office collections. In the case of Su From So, barring Raj, no one else was a well-known name and the team had kept his presence in the film a secret until the release. The film is the highest grossing Kannada film of 2025, a feat that will likely be broken only by Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 this year.

Raj and co undertook no publicity blitzkrieg prior to the release, determined to let the content do all the talking and it did, surpassing perhaps even the expectations the team had of the film. Raj was confident that they’d made a good film and that it would appeal to audiences. Audiences took a special liking to characters played by Shaneel Gautham (Ravi Anna), Pushparaj Bollar (Baava), Sandhya Arekere (Bhanu), as well as Raj (Karunakar Guruji).

Classic Kannada comedies on OTTplay

The film was subsequently dubbed in Malayalam, where it has also received a fairly warm welcome. In its two week run, Su From So has made Rs 5 crore in Kerala. The Telugu-dubbed version, though did not have the same level of acceptance. There were talks of the film being dubbed or even remade in Hindi, with the latter gaining traction after Raj and JP were photographed with Ajay Devgn, who’d seen and appreciated Su From So.
