The film, during its theatrical opening on Thursday opened, made under a crore, to be precise Rs 0.72 crore. This is comparatively less than the other Tamil film Sirai which was also released on the same day and made Rs 1 crore. However, with the Christmas weekend to go, the audience might show interest in Retta Thala. The film marks Arun Vijay’s third release this year, after Vanangaan, and Idli Kadai.

The film is a fast-paced action thriller with a crisp runtime of 1 hour and 53 minutes, but despite it, Retta Thala had opened to negative reviews from critics.
