In a keenly contested AMMA election that was held on August 15, 2025, Shweta Menon defeated actor Devan by 20 votes. Kuku Parameswaran defeated Raveendran to become the general secretary. Lakshmi Priya competed against Jayan Cherthala, Nasar Latheef to become the vice president. This is the first time that AMMA will be led by woman in key posts.
The AMMA elections were necessitated after the previous committee led by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal resigned en masse, following the public outcry over the Hema Committee report which revealed instances of sexual harassment and the issues faced by women artistes and technicians in the film industry. In the run-up to the AMMA elections on Friday, there was much mud-slinging and character assassination of various members. Allegtions were also raised against Shweta and even a case filed.
After winning the election, Shweta said that she plans to call an executive committee meeting and take some decisions.
On the other hand, Kerala Film Producers Association’s elections were also held recently which saw B Rakesh getting elected as president, Listin Stephen becoming the secretary ad Sophia Paul as the vice president. Sandra Thomas, who made headlines after she made scathing remarks against Listin and other producers, could not win a place in the executive committee
