Su From So: Can Raj B Shetty and co deliver 2025’s first Kannada Rs 100 cr film?

On its third Saturday, Su From So was still recording over 500 fast filling/sold out shows in Karnataka, but can it sustain with Coolie only days away?

Su From So’s magical run at the Karnataka box office has been showing no slow down, on weekends or on week days. The film has reportedly grossed a tad under Rs 65 cr in 15 days, most of which has come from its Kannada original version. A Malayalam dubbed version released on August 1, a week after the Kannada original and has been steadily picking up on the back of positive word-of-mouth publicity.

Phenomenal third weekend for Su From So

As of August 8, a Telugu dubbed version is also in the mix, but the clear winner, is, of course, the original, which, on day 16, its third Saturday, was still recording over 500 fast filling/sold out shows with box office trackers estimating that yet another big weekend was loading. Rs 5.5 crore is the estimated third Saturday revenue, with Sunday also expected to bring in as much, if not more. Even on weekdays, Su From So had consistently been making between Rs 2 cr and Rs 3 cr.

The question now is with Rajinikanth’s Coolie releasing on August 14, how much longer can Su From So maintain this momentum? Does the film have the wherewithal to make it into the Rs 100 cr club? On August 14, the Hindi film War 2, which also stars Jr NTR, will be in theatres along with Coolie, and between the two films, a bulk of screens/shows will be taken up. Su From So’s collections next week will depend on the number of screens/shows it is left with on Thursday.

There are also reports that producer Raj B Shetty, who was in discussions to close post theatrical streaming right deals prior to the release, has done so and that Su From So will be on OTT by the end of August. If this is indeed true, that will also contribute to a slow-down in footfalls. Of course, Coolie’s and War 2’s reception in Karnataka will impact Su from So and a clear picture will emerge after the Independence Day long weekend on the first Monday.
