The expectation was that in the face of two massive big-ticket releases – Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR’s War 2 on August 14 – the Kannada film Su From So’s theatrical run, which began on July 25, would be on the decline. But on Day 2 of these two biggies in theatres, following middling reviews for both, it is Su From So that is registering whopping ticket sales on aggregator sites. Most of the Kannada comedy’s shows over the weekend are fast-filling or sold out, with ticket sales pegged at 7k per hour on its 4th weekend.

Su From So, a small Kannada film backed by Raj B Shetty, who also has a pivotal role in it, has literally done the unthinkable and not only become the highest grossing film of Sandalwood in 2025 so far, but also outperformed the much-hyped Yuva Rajkumar-starrer Ekka. Yuva’s film was expected to be the film to break the industry’s box office slump and bring audiences back to theatres, but it is director-actor JP Thuminad, who has done that with his Su From So.

Su From So records domestic gross of Rs 75 crore and counting

The film was initially released in Kannada only, but based on feedback that it will work in Malayalam too, it was dubbed and released in Kerala a week later. A Telugu version also came out but the reception there has not been as encouraging as in Kerala. According to box office tracking site sacnilk, Su from So’s domestic gross alone is a tad under Rs 75 cr, which it is expected to cross over the Independence Day weekend.

More importantly, the film’s world-wide gross currently stands at Rs 94 cr, tantalisingly close to the Rs 100 cr mark, a figure that is not impossible to get to, given the film’s overwhelmingly positive weekend performance. This theatrical run also means that Su From So’s OTT outing will be delayed. It was initially thought that the film would be available to stream within the 30-day mark, but that looks doubtful now.

Su From So follows Ashoka (JP Thuminad), who pretends to be ‘possessed’ to get out of a sticky situation. But when the whole village is convinced that he is indeed possessed and set out to sort him out, things go bad for him, until he meets Bhanu (Sandhya Arekere), the daughter of the woman believed to have possessed him, Sulochana From Someshwara.
