Su from So first verdict: ‘Start-to-finish laughter riot; Ravi Anna for the win’; say audiences after premiere

Su From So, the horror comedy, written and directed by JP Thuminad, had its premiere in Mangaluru, which will be followed by shows in Shivamogga, Mysuru, Bengaluru ahead of the July 25 release

Raj B Shetty is once bitten, twice shy – after going on a publicity blitzkrieg for his film Toby, which did not have the result he’d hoped for, this time around, for his production Su from So he wants the content to do the talking. Raj attended the media briefing for the trailer launch of the JP Thuminad directorial and did a couple of interviews on the sidelines of the event, followed by a few promotional interactions with JP and Shaneel Gautam, who plays a major character in the film. That’s about been the extent of the promotions for the film, which hits theatres on July 25, 2025.

Instead, Raj, who’s produced the film, has begun giving audiences early access to the film to drum up word-of-mouth publicity and if the feedback from the show in Mangaluru is anything to go by, it seems that the actor-filmmaker has a winning hand. As per the trailer, JP’s film is a horror comedy, revolving around a ‘ghost’ – Sulochana from Someshwar - tormenting a village. Audiences who caught the premiere have been going ga-ga over the start-to-finish laughter riot.

Netizens had speculated that the shot of a sari clad person’s leg in the trailer belongs to Raj, but he’d claimed that he was not in the film. Now that a section of the audience has seen the film, we know for a fact that he is in it after all. His entry has been described as “crazy” and “awesome”, among others. Shaneel Gautham’s character Ravi anna has also been receiving a lot of praise. But the best part, so far is that audiences are calling it a complete entertainment package.

Su from So now heads to Shivamogga for the next premiere show, which will be followed by Mysuru on July 23, Bengaluru on July 24 and then, the full-fledged release on July 25. The film is being dubbed in Malayalam and will be released by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films in Kerala. It may not be a July 25 simultaneous release, though.
