One of the most widely awaited Kannada films on OTT is, undoubtedly, the superhit Kannada comedy Su From So, written and directed by Tulu artiste JP Thuminad and produced by actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty. The film, which hit theatres on July 25, after a round of paid premieres across cities in Karnataka, became a runaway success, solely on the strength of positive word-of-mouth from these shows. The Kannada original film made it to the Rs 100 crore club, while the Malayalam dubbed version also received love. Su From So didn’t work in the Telugu belt, though. Su From So is said to have ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross in the range of Rs 120 cr to Rs 125 cr.

Su From So headed to JioHotstar on...

The film has been rumoured to be OTT bound for a while. Raj had earlier denied reports about a satellite and OTT deal, but according to the latest, it will begin streaming this week. It had been reported that Colors Kannada and JioHotstar have the satellite and digital rights, respectively, with September 5 which coincides with Thiruvonam and Eid-E-Milad, said to be the streaming premiere date. The film, though, didn't get a festivate date and Su From So will now be on JioHotstar (also on OTTplay Premium) from September 9 onward.

Su From So follows JP Thuminad’s character Ashoka, a painter, whose crush on the village beauty leads him into a certain situation, to get out of which he pretends to be possessed by a spirit. Despite his best efforts to convince the villagers that the spirit left him long ago, they remain sure that all’s not well with him and make attempts to exorcise the soul, who is then identified as Sulochana from Someshwara. What is Sulochana’s purpose in choosing Prakasha forms the crux of the story.

The film, which features cracker-jack music by Sumedh K, also stars Shaneel Gautham, Sandhya Arekere, Raj B Shetty, Mime Ramadas, Prakash Thuminad, Pushparaj Bollar and Deepak Rai Panaje, among others.
