Survivor: A documentary about Shivarajkumar’s successful cancer battle officially announced

In March 2025, Shivarajkumar had confirmed that his almost year-long battle with bladder cancer would be documented for public awareness

It was in August 2024 that rumours began cropping up that Kannada cinema’s Century Star Shivarajkumar was not doing very well as far as his health goes. He looked visibly in distress during the last press meet of Arjun Janya’s 45 at his house, to announce that the film had been wrapped up, but back then it was said that he was a tad feverish. It was during the promotions of Bhairathi Ranagal that Shivarajkumar finally came clear about what was actually going on with him.

While he didn’t explicitly mention that he was battling cancer, he said he was undergoing treatment and that he needed surgery, for which he headed to Miami in December last year. Since his return from the US, in January 2025, though, Shivarajkumar and his wife Geetha have been discussing his treatment, right from the initial diagnosis to the eventual surgery. They also revealed that Shivarajkumar finished major portions of 45, including an action block, following chemo therapy.

Shivarajkumar had undergone a neo-bladder reconstruction, following which he was declared cancer-free. In one of his media interactions, the Hattrick Hero revealed that his doctors had asked him to document the entire process, which he did and it will soon be available to audiences.

On the actor’s birthday on July 12, Shivarajkumar’s home banner Geetha Pictures posted, “On the day of his birth, comes a story of his rebirth..Officially announcing Survivor, a documentary exploring the story of the actor’s sporty, warrior spirit. More updates are expected in August. Produced by Geetha Shivarajkumar, the documentary has been written and directed by Pradeep Sastry.

Shivarajkumar, who was seen in a brief cameo in his daughter Niveditha’s maiden production venture Firefly, will have his first major release since his cancer treatment with 45, the directorial debut of composer Arjun Janya. The film, which also stars Upendra and Raj B Shetty is slated to hit theatres on August 15, 2025.
