The Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for the years 2016-2022 were announced recently, with many star actors, from Dhanush to Nayanthara being awarded for their works. However, fans were quite irked with the ignorance shown toward a certain 2018 film starring Mammootty. Peranbu, which is directed by Ram, had opened to critically exceptional reviews with many praising the Malayalam superstar’s performance. Yet, with the Tamil Nadu Film Awards skipping the film, has not sat well with audience.

Tamil Nadu State Film Awards: Why Mammootty fans are irked?

Mammootty-starrer Peranbu released in 2018 and revolves around a father who is the sole caretaker of his daughter who has cerebral palsy. Mammootty’s performance in the film was acclaimed. But with the recently announced Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, the film did not get any mention in any of the categories, with the exception for Best Cinematographer award going to Theni Easwar. Instead, the award for Best Actor went to Dhanush in 2018 for Vada Chennai, and to Parthiban for Oththa Seruppu Size 7, in 2019.

Fans of Mammootty have been dejected at the list, given the actor’s performance in the film was widely appreciated. Calling it a 'pure injustice' and that Mammootty's performance will be unrecognised, netizens slammed the awards for the ignorance of Peranbu in their list. Even as fans appreciated Dhanush for his role, they stated that leaving Mammootty's Amudhavanan from Peranbu was 'some another level of clownery'.
