More about The Kerala Story 2 row

On February 26, Justice Thomas imposed a 15-day interim stay and instructed the CBFC to review objections raised against the film. The court had earlier questioned the censor board’s decision to grant a U/A rating, saying it violated the guidelines.

In response, the producers filed an urgent appeal that same day. The Division Bench scheduled a special 7:30 pm sitting, heard arguments for more than two hours, and then reserved its verdict. Now, at 4 pm on Friday (February 27), the court lifted the interim stay, clearing the path for the film’s release.

A petition by biologist Sreedev Namboodiri claimed the trailer and title portray Kerala negatively, risk stigmatising the state, and could disturb public order. The petition states that the film also contains references to other states, making the title misleading. The Kerala High Court issued notices to the CBFC, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and the producers.
