Tumbbad

While Sohum Shah struggles to get his film Crazxy (the latest movie released in theatres, the actor has now taken feedback and changed the ending to make it more appealing) working at the Box Office, his focus seems to have shifted back to Tumbbad. The original film, Tumbbad, received immense love when it re-released in theatres in 2024, and thus, the sequel to this film is much-awaited. We finally have an update on the very sequel, right from the budget of the movie to where it currently stands. Here's everything you need to know...

Tumbbad 2 gets Rs 100 crore budget

Tumbbad sequel is made on a budget of Rs. 100 crore. The second installment of Tumbbad comes after the film's theatrical re-release (and Crazxy also releasing in theatres). Interestingly, the original film (Tumbbad) fought hard to stay in budget and did not even find distributors when it was in production (Sohum Shah had to sponsor the movie himself), while some studios have shown interest for the sequel, despite Rs. 100 crore budget.

The controversy around Tumbbad sequel

Tumbbad director Rahi Anil Barve and Sohum Shah have shared contrasting statements when it came to Tumbbad. While the actor claims that Tumbbad was never imagined as a sequel and was supposed to be a standalone film, director Barve had a different point of view. He had spilled that Tumbbad was always the first part of a trilogy, and while he had penned the stories of the trilogy, he wants nothing to do with them anymore. Barve does not wish to pursue the world of Tumbbad, while Sohum continues to tap into it. Interestingly, the original film saw the leading character became the one bearing the consequences of his greed - he became the greed monster aka Hastar himself. Thus, it would be interesting to see what the sequel(s) would have to offer. It is highly likely that the sequels will all have a different story from the original film and its concept.
